🎶🎶 Choir, Band, and Orchestra Update!🎶🎶
*Information is subject to change as we adjust for unforeseen changes. Please be kind and patient, and I will keep you up to date as I learn information.*
🎺 5th Grade Beginning Band: We are working on a plan to start band during the second half of the year, with a goal of beginning February 2nd. Band directors will visit your child’s classroom sometime between December and January to get students excited and to give more information. I will update you as I have more information.
🎻5th Grade Orchestra (2nd year): If your student participated in orchestra last year, they will be able to continue orchestra this year. Orchestra teachers will be reaching out to you in several weeks, with an anticipated start date of October 1st. We do not yet have a time, but classes will take place over Zoom. More information TBA. I will update you as I have more information.
🎻4th Grade Orchestra (1st year): We are working on a plan to start beginning orchestra during the second half of the year, with a goal of beginning February 2nd. Orchestra directors will visit your child’s classroom sometime between December and January to get students excited and to give more information. I will update you as I have more information.
🎤3rd-5th Grade Choir: The district is asking us to put a hold on choir for now. I am working closely with colleagues to find a way to still provide a meaningful choral experience, even if it doesn’t look like choir normally would. There is a potential to have choir during the second half of the year. I will update you as I have more information.
EDGE Students: You will have the same opportunities as CDL students. If we have band, choir, or orchestra, you will have access as well. Watch the school website for more information!
Home-school/Private School/Home Pods: At this time, we do not have a system in place for you to access music through Salem Heights/Morningside. You are welcome to continue to access anything that is posted on the Facebook page, and if the situation changes, I will notify you as soon as I can! I was home-schooled growing up, and the music opportunities I was given through my local school changed my life and eventually led to my desire to be a music educator – so know that I see you, I hear you, and I will do my best to provide any music I can within the guidelines I am working under.
Families, take a moment and breathe — you are doing a great job navigating the twists and turns this year with school. No matter what you decided to do for school this year, you made the right choice for your family given the information you have. I believe in you all, and reach out if you need help or resources.
