4th grade orchestra schedules are still in the works and beginning orchestra classes will only occur at elementary schools this year (not at Crossler)

Dear Fifth Grade Orchestra Students and Parents,

I am delighted to welcome you back to orchestra this year as fifth graders! If I haven’t had the pleasure of meeting you, my name is Mrs. Scotton, and I am the orchestra director at Crossler Middle School. I also teach elementary orchestra at the following schools: Liberty, Schirle, Sumpter, and Salem Heights Elementaries. I am excited to take this musical journey with you!

If your student is planning on participating in 5th Grade Orchestra this year, please fill out this Class Sign Up Form. It will help me gather some important information about the students and make sure I have the correct contact information for parents/guardians.

The purpose of this email is to reach out and provide some basic information that you will need to know before we start/return to 5th Grade orchestra. Please read the following information, and let me know if you have any questions:

  • Mrs. Scotton will be your orchestra teacher (scotton_lauren@salkeiz.k12.or.us)
  • 5th Grade orchestra will begin on Monday, September 12 – Please instruments on the first day!
  • We will have orchestra class daily from 3:15-4pm at Crossler MS — Monday through Friday
  • A bus will pick you up at the end of your school day and bring you to Crossler Middle School. Attendance will be taken before students board the bus and then taken again once they arrive at Crossler Middle School.
  • A snack will be provided before students are transported to Crossler Middle School.
  • Orchestra class will start at 3:15 and conclude at 4 PM. Students will be able to ride the middle school bus home, walk, or you may pick up your student directly from Crossler Middle School.

Here is a list of materials students will need for orchestra:

  • Instrument (shoulder rest, rock stop, rosin, etc.)
  • Essential Elements Book 1 (interactive version)
  • Folder for Music
  • Pencil
  • Music Stand (for at home practice)

Please email me if you need to rent an instrument from Crossler or borrow a music stand or Essential Elements book.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about me, the schedule or the program. I anticipate a great year of sharing music with you!
